The summer weather in Oregon is just beginning to bring about my favorite type of clothing: flip flops, tank tops, shorts, and sunscreen. You just can't take the California out of me even though I've lived here for nearly 25 years, officially giving me the Oregonian status with the locals. Today was a beautiful one, bringing about a sunburn on the back of my legs from painting this one just off of Kaiser Road in Helvetia, OR. A lovely day to be out painting indeed.

Last weekend I drove the miles to The American Art Co. in Tacoma to participate in "demo day". I worked on a large piece measuring 24x24" in a 4 hour period...more like 3 after all the snack breaks and visiting with the other artists who participated in this event. The 4 other artists were: Misty Martin, Barbara Benedetti Newton, Neil Andersson and Reni Moriarity.

Painting nearly completed, a real workout at my portable easel...surrounded by incredible art. You can see a bit of the rose colored underpainting near the lower area of the piece.

This is a wonderful post, Brenda. It is great to see you in front of your demo easel, and you put yourself up to quite a challenge, there.

Your work is great to see.

Thanks Casey, you are way too kind...but I'll take it!
I had a wonderful time, love my gallery owners, so good to work with, and the painting just painted itself...although I still have to finish the last bottom part.

Again, thanks....
So, I want to know are you planning on attending the Hood River Plein Air event? Sure would love to meet you, oh famous blogger you!

love both of these paintings... and thinking the 24x24 will require the use of my favorite word for such occasions: GADZOOKS that's a good painting!

Great word Celeste, it has that retro flavor I so love...makes me think of the show Batman on B/W TV!

LOL! Gadzooks! I'll have to incorporate that into my vocab as well! Great work on the paintings!

It is trouble for me to attend because I am on my way to California then. Last year I stopped in on the set-up day and met Celeste.

Maybe, if it is the same day, I will do that again. I will call or write ahead.

How do you attach your pastel box to your tripod? I can see the bungee cord but I can't figure out the support you have underneath. Figuring out ways to travel with pastels has been a challenge that prevents me from using them. Thx.

Hi IMI,
I have several tripod set ups depending on the situation. In this pic, I have a shelf that I purchased from SunEden at http://sunedenartistsgear.com/. It's a plein air accessory called an artists' shelf. A nifty little shelf but I would recommend that you support it with some masking tape as mine has collasped from my tripod leaving a mess of broken pastels on the ground!

I'll see you outside then. I've looked at that and wondered if it would be strong enough. I'd rather pack a tripod than the wooden easel sold at Dakota. I'd also like to use whatever I get with other mediums too. Thx.
